Synopsis:
THE BEST OF ME is the heart-rending story of two small-town former high school sweethearts from opposite sides of the tracks. Now middle-aged, they've taken wildly divergent paths, but neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever altered their world. When they are both called back to their hometown for the funeral of the mentor who once gave them shelter, they will be forced to confront the choices each has made, and ask whether love can truly rewrite the past.

My Review:

First, I just wanted to say two things. Remember my post about the Nicholas Sparks franchise and how I was going to read all my Nicholas Sparks books in a row...changed my mind! I will try to read them all this year, but in between other books. Also my mom and I never got around to seeing The Longest Ride and now it's no longer in theaters here. So I'll wait until that is released on DVD before I read it because I want to read and watch around the same time.

Okay onto The Best of Me.

When I first read this book, two years ago, I was so devastated by the ending that I felt unsatisfied with it. But after revisiting it and having watched the movie, as heartbreaking as the ending is, it all ties up nicely and makes sense so I've come to terms with it.

What I love about this book is the love story between Amanda and Dawson, and how it's everlasting. A tale of two kids who fell passionately in love, separated by circumstances, and reunited 20 years later to realize that love is still there, and always will be. I also really love the relationship each other them had with Tuck, and how he arranged for them to handle his dying wishes.

What I didn't love about the book, as with most Nicholas Sparks books, is all the exposition. Nicholas Sparks has a tendency to go a little too in detail when it's not necessary. It makes the book drag at times, in my opinion. It's the one thing that does bother me about his books. But he's still one of my favourites because he does writes beautiful love stories.

Were you a fan of The Best of Me? What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks for reading!!
