Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 9

HOH: Austin
Nominees: Steve & John
Have-Nots: N/A
POV Players: Austin, Steve, John, Meg, Julia, Vanessa
POV Winner: Vanessa, not used
Replacement Nominee: N/A
Evicted Houseguest: John, voted out 5-0

I just want to stress that this week has been the worst week by far for me personally!!!

The HOH competition was one I hadn't seen on Big Brother before so that was refreshing. Unfortunately the guy who won it has alliances with every person in the house, and unfortunately he chose to target John and Steve, putting my favourite in jeopardy. For the first time this summer, Johnny Mac was being put on the block as a potential target instead of a pawn. The target was still up in the air if it was going to be him or Vanessa.

Zingbot was back for the Veto competition. The Zings were pretty tame this year, other than Liz and Austin's. Zingbot basically called Austin trash, and for Liz they got called out for Austin cheating on his girlfriend. The competition itself was the face morph competition. Vanessa ended up winning the Veto, taking away that option as a target. But Vanessa took this opportunity to build a bridge with Johnny Mac. She wanted to use the veto on him and tried to get James or Meg nominated, but Austin wasn't having it. So the veto wasn't used and John became the official target for the week for Austin.

But this week, the house flipped back and fourth so many times that the target kept bouncing between John and Steve all week, all the way up until eviction day. Both nominees put in a solid effort, but as usual with this house, people are playing it safe and decided to do what the HOH wanted. So John was sent out on a unanimous vote. Luckily for him and the other 3 jurors (Shelli, Jackie and Becky) that it was time to do the jury buyback competition. This year they combined the buyback comp with the HOH competition. So it was another battle of endurance where they all compete, whoever is the last standing between the 4 jurors will be the one to return to the game, and whoever is left out of everyone will be the new HOH.

The episode ended on them battling it out. Since I watch the live feeds, I already know who won HOH and who won the jury buyback. But I'll leave that for next week's post.

Let's have Johnny Mac time for possibly the last time!

Have I mentioned how hard this week was on me!! Because it was the absolute worst. Every time the target flipped back to John, I would get anxious and sad. I think if he had just been the target all along I could have made my peace with it. But it was literally every day from Saturday-Thursday that he kept having this possibility of staying. I didn't like that he waited until Thursday morning to start campaigning hard to James and Meg. But I get why he waited, and why he campaigned the way he did. It was actually really good now that I can reflect back. He fought hard to stay, and almost flipped the votes. But ultimately it wasn't enough. But he has a very good shot at coming back into the game with the jury buyback comp. So watch tomorrow's episode to find out if he's back or not!

That's all for this week! I'm so glad it's over because that was the toughest week of Big Brother by far for me. Here's to a new week!!

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 8

HOH: Liz
Nominees: Becky & John
Have-Nots: John, Vanessa & Steve
POV Players: Liz, Becky, John, Steve, Austin, Meg
POV Winner: Liz, not used
Replacement Nominee: N/A
Evicted Houseguest: Becky, voted out 6-0

This week was extremely difficult for me because my two favourite players were on the block against each other all week. John and Becky were my faves from the start. I loved their friendship, and how they looked out for each other. They both were quiet and secret about how close they were in the game and it was working. They were nominated together more for their comp wins over their allegiance to each other. What made it even more sad and beautiful was they both refused to campaign against each other.

Let's discuss Liztin (Liz/Austin) for a minute and how utterly disgusted I am by them!! They are by far the worst showmance this summer, and are among the worst in BB history imo. It started off as creepy stalkerish on Austin's part, and then Liz started to like it which was bizarre. Now they are fully all over each other to the point of going to second base at least 5 or 6 times within 12 hours one day. BLAH!! GROSS! I much prefer Clay and Shelli over them, and I never thought I would say that I miss those two, but I do! GET LIZTIN OFF MY TV SCREEN!! Can't take it anymore. I can't wait for them to get a reality check when they find out just how much the majority of viewers HATE them! They both honestly believe they are loved, and that's the worst kind of people in Big Brother.

OTEV was back this week for Veto. I usually love OTEV, but this year's was really annoying! Liz ended up winning it (insert eyeroll here). Veto wasn't used, of course. I knew right away that Becky was leaving, and as much as I love her, John is my number 1 priority in that house and has been since Day 1. It was hard to watch John and Becky's moments this week knowing that it's most likely the last time we'll see them together in the game. I'm really hoping John stays safe next week and Becky gets to re-enter the game. None the less, they spent a lot of time together and it was all very bittersweet.

Since I'm already over this week and how devastating (Jecky) and gross (Liztin) it was, let's talk about something or should I say someone who always puts a smile on my face; JOHNNY MAC TIME!!!

John seems to be over the game, and that worries me a bit. I want to see him fight more to be there and start winning HOH's and taking these people out one by one! Instead, John threw the Veto which was super risky but ended up working in his favour. Which is fine, but I hope he never throws another comp in this game. John's lost ally after ally, all within a row (Clay, Shelli and now his number 1, Becky). He's stuck working with Steve, someone who John has said he doesn't want to go to the end with. He put his trust in Liz and Austin to get him through this week. Another thing that keeps coming up in the house is everyone is convinced that he's a twist because he gets called to the DR so much! Basically just because he's funny and loud in the DR, he's being targetted for it! I hate these people sometimes!! I just want this poor guy to catch a break.

Hoping he can make it through next week! I don't want him to have to compete in the buyback comp because he'd be going against 3 really strong women and the odds would be stacked against him. But I will still root for him if that was the case. I will always root for Johnny Mac over anyone!!

Okay Week 8 is over, on to Week 9!!

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 7

HOH: Becky
Nominees: Shelli & Steve
Have-Nots: James, Jackie & Meg
POV Players: Becky, Shelli, Steve, Vanessa, Austin, Meg
POV Winner: Steve, used it on himself
Replacement Nominee: Vanessa
Evicted Houseguest: Shelli, voted out 8-0

DOUBLE EVICTION

HOH: Steve
Nominees: Jackie & Meg
Have-Nots: N/A
POV Players: Steve, Jackie, Meg, John, James, Vanessa
POV Winner: John, veto not used
Replacement Nominee: N/A
Evicted Houseguest: Jackie, 6-1

The BB Takeover has officially been cancelled, so that was a complete flop of a twist. Won't have to mention that anymore!

This week started off as a really good week and ended up so bad! My favourite girl in the house in Becky so I was so happy when she won HOH this week and set a plan in motion to backdoor Vanessa. I'm sorry if you're a fan of hers, but I can't stand her! Her constant crying and lying game is old and I'm beyond over it.

Last week when James was HOH, Vanessa orchestrated a meeting in the HOH with herself and 7 other people to get them to nominate whoever stays out of Clay and Shelli and John and use Steve as a replacement nomination if needed. She went around the room making everyone give her their word that they would do this! Becky never gave her word that she would follow through with this plan because she doesn't like when people force her word from her, and I don't blame her.

So when Becky becomes HOH, she pretends to go with the plan but instead of putting up John, she put up Steve because she's closer aligned with John. She lied to Vanessa about her plan this week, not wanting Vanessa to know she was the target. When Steve won the veto, Becky went through with her plan and backdoored Vanessa. All was going fine until Becky's group (James, Meg, and Jackie) decided to change the target 2 nights before eviction. Next thing we knew, Shelli was the target and there was nothing Becky could do to change their minds.

Which brings us to Thursday night, Double Eviction night. Shelli gets evicted on a 8-0 vote, and is the first member of jury. Steve then won HOH and decided to throw a curveball and nominated Meg and Jackie. His plan was most likely to backdoor Becky, but John won the POV and since he is close to Becky and didn't want to risk her getting up as a replacement nominee, he didn't use the Veto. The house then sent out Jackie on a 6-1 vote, making her the second member of jury. The silver lining is that there will be a jury buyback this year, so both of these ladies have a chance to come back into the game.

Johnny Mac time!! My favourite time!

John seems to be losing allies left and right, and it's turning him into a sad panda which makes me sad! Because Becky, his closest ally in the house, was HOH this week, he started off the week great. His second closest ally was Shelli, and everything went downhill when the target switched to her. So things weren't looking good for him by the end of this week. He needs a team!! You can't win this game alone as Dan Gheesling would say. Good thing is John won his 3rd POV, making him have the most Veto wins this season so far. If he keeps this up, he can set some records before the season is over. Making him the Veto King of BB17! I hope things start looking up for him soon, gamewise!!

Onwards to Week 8!

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour - Book Review

Started: August 2, 2015 | Finished: August 10, 2015

Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Published by Simon & Schuster on May 4, 2010
Genre: Contemporary
Pages: 344
Book Edition: Hardcover
No. of times read: 1
Links: Goodreads

Synopsis:
Amy Curry is not looking forward to her summer. Her mother decided to move across the country and now it's Amy's responsibility to get their car from California to Connecticut. The only problem is, since her father died in a car accident, she isn't ready to get behind the wheel. Enter Roger. An old family friend, he also has to make the cross-country trip - and has plenty of baggage of his own. The road home may be unfamiliar - especially with their friendship venturing into uncharted territory - but together, Amy and Roger will figure out how to map their way.
Rating: 4.5/5

My Review:

Another Morgan Matson book! I really like her writing style, and how she tells a story. I definitely liked this one more than Since You've Been Gone. The pace was better, I enjoyed the storyline more. I also really loved the added touch of visual presentation throughout the book, documenting their road trip.

This book follows Amy as she struggles with getting her life back after just losing her father to a tragic car accident, one she feels responsible for as she was driving when it happened. At the start of the book, Amy is very closed off so it was great to watch her slowly come to terms with what happened and see her grow as a character. Roger was another really great character. He had his own issues with an ex-girlfriend at the start of the book, and we see him come to his own terms throughout the book. I really loved the relationship between Amy and Roger, and seeing how they come together through their hard times.

My one complaint, much like with Since You've Been Gone, there was things left unsaid. Not big things, but things I'll wonder about like for instance Julia's emails. What did she have to say in them. I wanted to see Amy and her mom talk it out. Amy's call with Roger when she got home. Just a lot of little things were left to your imagination which I guess in a way is a good thing. But a part of me wanted to know through the author's eyes.

Overall really good book! I'm becoming a fan of Morgan Matson's books!! I want to read more from her in the near future.

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 6

HOH: James
Nominees: Shelli & Clay
Have-Nots: Austin, Liz & Julia
POV Players: James, Shelli, Clay, Becky, Vanessa, Jackie
POV Winner: James, veto not used
Replacement Nominee: N/A
Evicted Houseguest: Clay, voted out 9-0

The twins came into the game as independent players this week, so the game was reset and Battle of the Block ended. So from this point on, only a sole HOH would be crowned and to kick it off, they did their first endurance comp. It was the wall comp where you stand a small space against a wall and hold on while sporadically turn on the rain, or have a fake bird fly into their chest, but mainly they would occasionally tilted the wall forward and that's when people would slip off.

It came down to James, Shelli and Johnny Mac in the end. James made a deal with Shelli to not nominate or backdoor her or Clay, and he extended that deal to John. At that point, John dropped almost immediately and Shelli jumped off right after, making James the first sole HOH of the summer. He went back on his deal with Shelli and Clay since they weren't truthful with him the week before when Jason went home. James also won POV and kept the noms the same, insuring that the power couple be spilt up just before jury starts.

Clay fell on his sword for Shelli and asked to be evicted, so he went unanimously. He was the last pre-juror to be evicted. Julie announced that jury begins now, and that even if you're evicted, you're game isn't over or something along those lines implying that a jury member will come back, just like last year. They then begin their second endurance comp. This time it was the slip and slide one. Where they have a tiny cup and have to transfer water back and fourth on the slippery lanes and deposit it into a giant bowl on the other end of the lane. Whoever fills their bowl first, wins HOH.

Okay, Johnny Mac time!! My favourite time!

Obviously I love Johnny Mac, but my word he frustrated me this past week. His allegiance to Clay and Shelli is a real hindrance to his game. To the point where no-one wants to work with him long term because of it. As much as he likes to be an "independent player", that's not going to get him far in this game. I love that him and Becky have stepped up the game talk recently, but I wish he would step away from the Clay/Shelli side and join Becky with her side of James/Jackie/Meg. Those 5 together could go far in this game, but instead because he's so loyal to Clay/Shelli, James/Jackie/Meg don't trust him. He needs to start stepping it up, especially now that jury started. But my biggest worry is that he'll win HOH and go after the wrong people. So as you can see, it's a very frustrating time! Especially because he unintentionally got into a fight with Vanessa. I won't get into it since it will most likely be in tomorrow's episode, but it was another one of Vanessa's crazy antics. The positive is that it sparked a fire in Johnny Mac that we hadn't seen yet. So I'm looking forward to seeing him step up his game, and hopefully start to gravitate to the other side with Becky and gain the others trust more.

Okay week 6 is done! Here's to Week 7!!

Man Crush Monday: Johnny Mac (BB17)

This summer I've gone full on Big Brother addict, and in large part it's because of this guy! Who doesn't love Johnny Mac right now? He singlehandedly makes this season for me personally. His lay low, get everyone to love him strategy is working for him right now. His loud DR's are golden, by far the best this season. I'm ready for him to kick it up a notch, start winning HOH's and solidifying himself in the house. You can only lay low for so long before people catch on. I'm ready for John the gamer to come out to play!

With that said, let me tell you why he is the ideal guy in my eyes. It's almost scary how many boxes he ticks off when it comes to my idea of the perfect man! I'm not someone who is interested in big beefcake guys who are all about their looks, in fact I can't stand guys like that. Guys like Clay are a hard pass in my eyes.

When it comes to the perfect person, I believe personality is the most important, but looks do matter. You have to be physically attracted to someone to want to be with them. Anyone who says looks don't matter is lying. It's just all based on what your type is! Not everyone likes people who are by society standards perfect looking ie. a Clay or a Shelli.

Let's go down the list of the perfect guy in my opinion! (I promise this isn't me trying to describe John. This is genuinely my list. I wrote it down once and if I could find it, I would have provided proof).

Looks:
  • Nice smile
  • Lean built (I don't like big bulky guys. Don't like scrawny either.)
  • Short cut hair (don't like long hair on guys)
  • Hair/Eye colour doesn't matter to me (I do prefer blonde hair/blue eyes though)
That's about it in the looks department. As far as age goes, I like when a guy is around my age. I would prefer if he was older or my age, but I say I have a 5 year limit younger or older. So I like that John is a year older than I am.

Personality:
  • Fun, goofy, overall great sense of humour
  • Nice and considerate
  • Easy-going, doesn't take things too seriously
That's it! My ideal man. So I was thrown when I started watching the show and the live feeds and discovered a dentist from Scranton, PA who fits the bill. Too bad I'm a girl from Ontario, Canada! But that's okay because I'm really just happy to be a fan of his, and watch how he plays this game that I love. I think it's great that he has this huge fanbase that I'm sure he's not expecting to have! It's going to be exciting to see his reaction when he gets out of the house. I honestly think if he doesn't win the game that he's a lock for America's Favourite Player. Almost every poll that I vote on, he's always in the lead on a weekly basis. Team Johnny Mac FTW!!!

For anyone who wants to follow John on Twitter and Instagram, I'll leave you the details. They are both currently being run by one of his friends. Go follow him!!
I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for John in this game. For now I'm just enjoying my summer with Johnny Mac! But I'm rooting for him to win the whole thing!!

Are you a Big Brother fan? Are you loving Johnny Mac as much as I am?? Let me know in the comments!

Since You've Been Gone - Book Review

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 449
Book Edition: Hardcover
No. of times read: 1
Links: Goodreads

Kiss a stranger? Um...

Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane's list. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go skinny-dipping? Wait...what?
Rating: 4/5

My Review:

This book took me forever to read, mainly because I'm in addicted to Big Brother mode. So I spend most of my time watching the live feeds than I do reading.

With that said, I loved this book!! It was very fun and interesting. We follow Emily who is a very shy girl that was very happy to live in her best friend, Sloane's shadow. When Sloane disappears without warning, Emily's left with only a list of things to do. I liked reading through Emily's perspective while she goes through this list, and see as she started to open up more and allow herself to not be afraid to say and do what she wants. Emily was a very relatable character and I liked that. I enjoyed the relationships that were formed throughout this book, especially between Frank and Emily.

One of my complaints and why this took a little longer than usual was the super long chapters. I'm a person who likes to take a break at the end of a chapter, and so the long chapters were an issue for me at the start. But it was something that I got used to and as the book progressed, my interest in it outweighed my dislike of long chapters. Another thing was it ended so abruptly! There was more that I wanted to know especially with the side characters, Dawn and Collins. I wanted a little more of the four of them finishing out the summer together.

Overall, really great book! A really good summer read that I would highly recommend. Great story on friendship, and what you would do to see your best friend again.
