Synopsis:
Twenty years ago, all the evil villains were banished from the kingdom of Auradon and made to live in virtual imprisonment on the Isle of the Lost. The island is surrounded by a magical force field that keeps the villains and their descendants safely locked up and away from the mainland. Life on the island is dark and dreary. It is a dirty, decrepit place that's been left to rot and forgotten by the world.

But hidden in the mysterious Forbidden Fortress is a dragon's eye: the key to true darkness and the villains' only hope of escape. Only the cleverest, evilest, nastiest little villain can find it...who will it be?

Maleficent, Mistress of the Dark: As the self-proclaimed ruler of the isle, Maleficent has no tolerance for anything less than pure evil. She has little time for her subjects, who have still not mastered life without magic. Her only concern is getting off the Isle of the Lost.

Mal: At sixteen, Maleficent's daughter is the most talented student at Dragon Hall, best known for her evil schemes. And when she hears about the dragon's eye, Mal thinks this could be her chance to prove herself as the cruelest of them all.

Evie: Having been castle-schooled for years, Evil Queen's daughter, Evie, doesn't know the ins and outs of Dragon Hall. But she's a quick study, especially after she falls for one too many of Mal's little tricks.

Jay: As the son of Jafar, Jay is a boy of many talents: stealing and lying to name a few. Jay and Mal have been frenemies forever and he's not about to miss out on the hunt for the dragon's eye.

Carlos: Cruella de Vil's son may not be bravest, but he's certainly clever. Carlos's inventions may be the missing piece in locating the dragon's eye and ending the banishment for good.

Mal soon learns from her mother that the dragon's eye is cursed and whoever retrieves it will be knocked into a deep sleep for a thousand years. But Mal has a plan to capture it. She'll just need a little help from her "friends." In their quest for the dragon's eye, these kids begin to realize that just because you come from an evil family tree, being good ain't so bad.

My Review:

I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately where books take me a bit longer than normal to finish. Problem is when Big Brother was on, I did nothing but watch the Big Brother feeds. So now, I'm trying to get caught up with everything (mainly my YouTube subscriptions) so I mainly read at work while on my breaks. Anyways, on to the review.

This book was a very easy read and I really liked it. I love the take on the next generation of Disney villains and heroes. I'm a huge Disney fan, and Once Upon a Time is one of my favourite shows, so I was instantly drawn to this book. It's always cool to see how people take the classic Disney stories and make them their own.

This story mainly follows four kids and their quest to find the Dragon's Eye which is Maleficent's shaft. Mal, who is Maleficent's daughter is the bad girl who is trying to prove that she is just as evil as her mother. Jay, who is a thief and trying to find the "big score" so that he can get his father, Jafar's, respect. Carlos, an evil genius who is more of a servant than a son to Cruella De Vil. Evie, who's mother, the Evil Queen, is too obsessed with being the fairest of them all than about her daughter's well being.

It was great to see how these four kids came together to go on their quest and to see how they got through it as a group. I enjoyed watching as they started to work together especially Mal. There was also a sub-plot following Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast, who are King and Queen of Auradon. Ben is training to becoming the next King. The book ends with him, and kind of a little cliffhanger that says to find out more, watch the movie that premiered on Disney not long ago. So I'm going be watching that soon.

Have you read The Isle of the Lost? What are your thoughts?

Life Update; I'm employed again!

After almost 9 months of no work, no money, and a whole lot of doing nothing, I have a job again. I'm back to Tim Hortons. With all that time off I had, I realized how good I had it at my old job and also how good I was at it. Working at Tim Hortons is all I know as far as the working world goes, and it's all second nature now where I don't even have to think but just do, and not to toot my own horn, but I do it well. So yes I got sucked back in, and I'm happy about it. I'm also working with my mom again, so that's nice. Plans change, but just gotta go with what you know until you figure what what the next path is.

For now the next task is to get that driver's license I've been working on! I never had the desire to get my license, so I think that's one of the main reasons why it's taking me this long. It was something I was trying to get because I felt like I had to, not because I wanted to. But now, I want it! I want my license and the freedom that comes with it so badly, that I finally feel like it's a goal that I'm excited to achieve rather than a goal I feel obligated to reach for.

So as you can maybe tell if you've followed my blog, it's been lacking since Big Brother ended, but it's because I've been trying to readjust to working again and it's put me in a slump in all areas; writing, reading and whatnot. But the more this becomes routine again, the better it will be. So I just wanted to make a quick life post to let you know what's been going on with me, and why this blog just stopped. But I'm reading again, and my TV shows are back, so this blog will also come back to life soon enough!

Things are looking up! I'm in a very happy place in my life where I'm working towards getting things back in order, and working towards my goals. Lots to be thankful for..

On that note, to all my fellow Canadians,  HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
