Synopsis:
An unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor.

At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting-- he's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different. It's ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth.
From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd-- whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself-- Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.
Rating: 5/5

My Review:

This book was absolutely amazing!! It was so emotional, and raw, and real. I don't know where to start because I just put it down, and I'm still in that after book feeling of amazement. Whether you've experienced it personally or can imagine what it's like, having someone close to you with a severe illness is never an easy thing to grasp. I feel like this book captured it so well, and Patrick Ness did an excellent job bringing this book to life.

I didn't read the book with the pictures, although I wish I had now that I've read it. But what I am excited for is to see the movie, and I'm hoping to see it very soon! I'll insert the trailer for the movie below because it looks incredible. I'm so glad that I've read the book before I go to see the movie, I feel that's always best.

I will highly recommend this book to anyone!! If you've been thinking about reading it, please do. It's an easy read and it's so beautifully written that you won't regret it.
